The European Day is an annual conference to accelerate the processes oriented towards bringing together all regional labour market observatories in Europe into a single network to make it possible to quickly and systematically access and share the newest methods and practices. At the same time, the European Day is providing a channel for a lively exchange between the observatories on the empirical application of these methods. The conference will give a contribution – both as scientific community and operators - to the EU efforts and initiatives for building a single European Labour Market, to increase the cooperation among the different systems, to implement the employment policies.

On the occasion of the conference, Regional Labour Market Observatories will be invited to present cases of best practice: but these will form only a first step toward considering common methodological and data elements necessary for more effective and efficient Regional Labour Market Monitoring across Europe. The application of such common elements will ease trans-national and trans-regional comparisons as well as provide more transparency for labour mobility across Europe. Hence they will support and accelerate the processes to increase labour efficiency and employability.

The second European Day took place in Luxembourg on 6 October 2011. The hosts was CEPS/Instead "Centre d'Etudes de Populations, de Pauvreté et de Politiques Socio-Economiques / International Network for Studies in Technology, Environment, Alternatives, Development". 60 participants, representatives from the DG Employment, EURES, Politics, ETUC and labour market Observatories from across Europe discussed the topic “Practical Approaches of Youth Monitors in Regional Labour Market Observatories“.

The next European Day will take place on 11 October 2012 in Cracow, hosted by the Labour Market and Education Observatory of Małopolska in Cracow. Further information will be available soon.
