The Scientific Committee is promoted by the “European Network on Regional Labour Market Monitoring” as a body providing cognitive support to the Initiative for Networking Regional Labour Market Observatories. It was founded in Marseille (France), on 6 October 2010. The members are from Universities and research institutes in Italy, Germany, Denmark, Great Britain, France and Poland. The chair of the Scientific Committee is Prof. Ronald McQuaid, of Edinburgh Napier University, Scotland, UK.
The aim of the Scientific Committee is to select, discuss and elaborate guidelines and proposals on issues relating to: a) the better functioning of regional labour markets and regional labour market information; b) the identification of common elements that can facilitate their connection and their integration at the national and European levels; and c) the construction of a single labour market in Europe.
The commitment of the Scientific Committee is intended to provide a sound theoretical and scientific knowledge basis assisting in preparing the discussions and comparisons of European Day, the annual workshop of the Initiative for Networking Regional Labour Market Observatories. It should also facilitate synergies between the different regional and sector initiatives (joint programmes) and between structures (collaboration between agencies and services). Furthermore, the Scientific Committee shall develop a common European platform of proposals, as a specific contribution to the strengthening of economic and social cohesion policies across the European Union.
The Scientific Committee is an open structure for the collaboration of academics who want to contribute in a free and voluntary way to the EU integration process. The work and the structure of the Committee are organised on the basis of Regulations approved by the “European Regional Labour Market Monitoring Network”. The way of working provides specific thematic sessions, periodic in-depth meetings, regular exchanges of information and documents, the elaboration of guidelines and recommendations for the participants assessment at the annual workshop - the European Day.
